TRACTORTECH

Tractortech was founded by Nigel Ross, whose passion for agriculture and machinery began long before the business itself.

​

Growing up on a dairy farm in Matamata during the 1990s, Nigel spent his early years immersed in farming life, helping milk 360 cows across 115 hectares. From a young age, he was drawn to machinery and could often be found following contractors around the farm whenever silage season rolled around.

​

After leaving school, Nigel began his career with J Swap Contractors, working with earthmoving equipment while completing his apprenticeship as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic. Although he enjoyed the work, agriculture remained a strong calling.

​

An opportunity soon arose to work for respected agricultural contractor Neven Granich. Despite taking a pay cut to make the move, Nigel saw it as a chance to return to the industry he was most passionate about. It was during this time that he met Chris Burnell, founder of Diesel Performance Solutions (DPS), one of New Zealand's leading engine tuning companies.

Chris had a vision to establish a specialist tractor workshop focused primarily on John Deere repairs and servicing. Looking for the right person to help build the business, he approached Nigel with the opportunity.

​

At just 24 years old, Nigel was considering heading overseas on his OE. Instead, he chose to stay in New Zealand and back the new venture.

​

In September 2012, Tractortech Matamata was born.

​

Starting as a two-man operation, Tractortech focused on providing high-quality repairs and servicing to local farmers and contractors. While the business began modestly, its reputation for reliability, workmanship, and customer service quickly fuelled steady growth.

​

The following year, Nigel met his future wife, Kat, and Tractortech became more than just a business. Together they built a family, and today they are raising four young boys who already share their father's enthusiasm for machinery, tractors, and the agricultural industry. Family remains at the heart of everything Tractortech does.

​

As both Tractortech and DPS expanded, Chris eventually chose to focus entirely on the rapid growth of DPS. Nigel subsequently purchased Chris's shares in the business and continued building on the strong foundations they had established together.

​

A major milestone came in 2020, when Tractortech moved into its purpose-built facility at 29 Rockford Street, Matamata. The new workshop provided the space and resources needed to support a growing team and an expanding customer base.

​

In 2025, another exciting opportunity emerged when Nigel was approached about becoming a machinery dealer for CTM Imports. True to his practical nature, he took the time to thoroughly assess both the products and the people behind the business. After meeting with CTM Imports Managing Director Chris Barnes and seeing firsthand the quality of the machinery and the strength of the dealer support network, Nigel recognised the potential for a long-term partnership.

The decision to join the CTM Imports dealer network marked the next stage of Tractortech's growth. Expanding into machinery sales alongside its established servicing, repairs, parts, and field support services allowed the business to offer a more complete solution to customers throughout the region.

​

Today, Tractortech employs a team of 12 staff, operates seven field service vehicles, and works from a modern, purpose-built workshop. Alongside its trusted service and repair offering, the business proudly supplies a growing range of quality machinery through its partnership with CTM Imports.

​

From its beginnings as a small workshop in 2012 to the full-service agricultural business it is today, Tractortech has been built on hard work, practical expertise, strong relationships, and a genuine passion for supporting New Zealand farmers and contractors.
